Cierra's thoughts on adoptions and life in general

horsecamp.jpg

Cierra is very excited at the thought of being a big sister.  She runs around saying she's going to have a "little sibling".

Cierra will be sharing a room with her little sister.  We were surprised that this didn't bother her - maybe it was the part about getting Lance's bigger room that did it!

Cierra doesn't mind a minivan.

Cierra got a Chinese babydoll, with a little sister in a back sling for Christmas.  Her doll has it's own passport from Hong Kong also.

So what is up in Cierra's life anyways???
Cierra is a 2nd year Brownie, that will be moving up to Juniors in the fall.   She loves her troop and has done so much with them, such as: Pow Wow; camp out; overnight at the SAC museum building rockets & planes; StarLab; historical field trips; doing formal flag ceremonies for our sponsors; Pumpkin patch trip; many outdoor fieldtrips; & too many other things to list.  She is learning about helping others & doing many service projects also.

Cierra played soccor last spring. She surprised us with her competitive spirit & quick learning.

In the fall she took swimming lessons & is looking forward to taking more in spring. (Mom & dad feel a lot better about all the time she spends in her grandparents pool now.)

Cierra is an excellent student & excells at music & most subjects.  Her music teacher has asked us to put her into a choir & piano or other music lessons.

Cierra signs up for her level 4 swim lessons today. She is driving us crazy wanting to get started RIGHT NOW. I've never seen a kid so crazy about the water!

Cierra has also completed her "moving on up" workshop in Brownies. She is now eligible to move up to Junior Scouts. She also earned her first Junior badge.Right now she is trying to decide on what GS camp to go to this summer. Of course the one she really wanted was a horse camp - but at $500 that was a definate NO. There is another horse camp that is $200 but that is still significantly more expensive than the other camps, so she is pretty much out of luck. Why do my kids have such expensive interests???????

Thanks to Cierra's grandmother, she will be attending the horse day camp this summer. Guess I'd better go buy the child some boots! I will also sign her up for Skateland for the times Lance isn't around to babysit. She will be going to Texas also, and to Colorado with her Aunt. Great summer planned!

Cierra auditioned for one of the Omaha children's chiors yesterday. She was accepted & will start training the weekend after Labor Day. She is very excited about it.. She will perform in 5 different functions next school year.

Cierra has made it through the summer! She had a great time for a week in Colorado with her Aunt. From there she went to Texas for a week. She got to meet her new cousin Riley, ride grandma's horse, swim in grandma's pool, go to the water park and many more things.

Cierra loved horse camp. At the end of the week they put on a little show for the parents. It was fun to watch. She looked so tiny up on these horses. The horse they were posting on was a big 17 hand guy - made the kids look like little ants up there. Cierra did not want the week to end and I was glad we were going straight to a picnic after the horse show that day because I had to drag her out of the stables. I might end up having to send her there again next year!

Cierra has also just bridged to Jr. Scouts. They had a wonderful ceremony that the girls planned - including roses. She's growing up way too fast!

Cierra is into chior full swing.  She went to a retreat last weekend.  Mom thought she would have a heart attack when she was told she couldn't attend - and it was in Fremont.  I don't know these people and I'm handing my kid off to them to take out of town.  But, after it was all explained to me (and explained to them) I was assured I could follow the bus if I wanted - I just couldn't chaparon - because they didn't know me.  Kind of commical since both sides were using the same argument.  Unfortunate for them I had just finished a new round of girlscout training and was armed with all the current stats as to why I dont just hand over my child to anyone.  ANYWAYS - Cierra is enjoying herself and I love hearing her singing all the time.

It has been a busy school year for Cierra.  She is kept very busy in the Nebraska Childrens Chior.  She also has her Girl Scout troop that she is a member of.

In school Cierra is still doing very well.  Math is a weakness and she gets extra help with that.  The district is so good about wanting to keep the kids from falling behind their peer group.  Cierra also ran for Student Council this year - but she did not make it.

Chior has been very demanding.  The concerts are nothing short of amazing.  She has performed in Lincoln at the Music Educators Convention among other places.  The end of April she performs at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City and spends the day at the park.  In 2 weeks she auditions to move up to the next chior.  At first she had decided not to do this again as she was tired of getting up so early on Saturdays -- but the next door neighbors convinced her that her voice is a special gift and talent so she is going to stick with it.

Girl Scouts has kept Cierra busy also.  This last weekend she went on an overnight to Kearney Nebraska.  That was a unique trip that she will not forget any time soon.  They had reinactments from the 1858 time period.  The archway monument is where the Oregon, California, Mormon and one other trial all came together at.

Cierra had a great time at her birthday party.  Many of her friends came to celebrate with her.

Cierra is currently going to summer school and taking drama and accessories galore.  She is also attending vacation Bible school this week with Morgan.

At the end of summer school Cierra will be in a play.  Then the last week of June is Horse Camp (for the second year).

And right now - today - Aunt Stayce has just left for the hospital to have baby Audrey!  What an exciting month!

How Cierra has grown this last year! She's not looking so much like a little girl anymore. Its quite shocking to the system -- especially for dad!

Cierra just returned from a 4 day tour to Chicago with her Chior. They had a national competition that they sang in. She has lots of stories about Sears Tower and Shedd Aquirium, etc. They really kept the kids busy!

Cierra will be taking Art, Music, Spanish and PE at the elementary school next year. She misses the social aspect of public school and Nebraska has a new law that forces the schools to accept the part time students now.  Since she decided not to go back to the Childrens Chior next year and I was having a hard time finding an affordable alternative, we decided to take advantage of the new law. Since we were going to do that we threw in Art (which I currently pay for classes for her) to save some more money, PE because she's not getting near enough exercise anymore and she loves Spanish so she threw that one it. Her schedule will be interesting to see. I have a feeling its going to get complicated!

Cierra has taken many outside classes this year that have kept us hopping all over town.  She takes a science class out at the Homeschool Learning Center that has been an all year thing.  She also goes to the Children's Museum every other Wednesday for a math or science lab that they put on for homeschoolers.  We also take advantage of the Fontenelle Forrests homeschool classes (science/nature) but those are only 3-4 times a school year.  Also, the Durham Heritage Museum puts on a few classes a school year that she attends if she likes the subject -- last one was Latin Jazz and she had to learn to dance with a boy! Quite a shocker for her! Her favorite was the science class which was all hands on stuff - making and shooting-off rockets, building bridges, etc.

Cierra will also go to Florida in July with the rest of us. She will also be attending a YMCA horse camp. Usually she goes to a Girl Scout camp but they arent doing horses this year.  In June she is signed up for summer school to take a publishing class (actually writes and produces a hard back book), a pottery class and a science class.  Hopefully she will get into what she wants -- slots are hard to get since it so affordable.

Cierra spent the year in the Children's Chior again. This year the schedule was very intense. She got tired about half way through the year -- December was way over booked in my opinion.  She also still does Girl Scouts and works on badges at home alot to earn more -- and mom makes it easier by adding some of the badge work to her school day when it fits (I like the health things in the GS book). Also, she continues to participate in the Mother/Daughter book club.  The two of us have enjoyed this one alot -- I highly recommend to mothers of girls to start one of these.

That about catches up Cierra's last year.  She is turning into a nice young lady -- much less bossy than she used to be!!!
